Mattituck lost to Brentwood 49-46 at Mattituck High School yesterday.
In a game that had a big playoff feel to it, Mattituck was solid against a bigger, faster, stronger Brentwood team. Mattituck was in no way outplayed. It was the contrary, as the Brentwood girls played catch-up for the first three quarters against some outstanding basketball being played by Mattituck. But in the fourth quarter, some untimely fouls, and some missed calls against Brentwood, put Mattituck in a hole.
The Lady Tuckers clawed their way out a few times, getting within one point twice, but Brentwood would have none of it. Alex Beebe tried a last-second, three-point shot for the tie, but the ball clanged off the rim, and was rebounded by Brentwood to end the game.
