Mattituck edged past Shoreham-Wading River 51-47 at Shoreham-Wading River High School yesterday. The game started out slow, with both teams struggling to get points on the board. The first half finished with Mattituck leading 17-16. Things picked up for both squads in the second half. By the fourth quarter, it was a two-point game in favor of the Tuckers, with the Wildcats hot on their heels. But Shoreham’s play got sloppy, both on offense and defense, and that caused seven consecutive fouls. The Tuckers took full advantage and opened up a 10-point lead. The Wildcats didn’t give up. They buckled down and caused several Mattituck turnovers and a few foul calls. In the end, though, it wasn’t enough as Mattituck held on for the 51-47 win.
Mattituck’s Isaiah Johnson had 14 points, Xavier Allen had 13 points and Trevor Poole added 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Shoreham’s Kyle Boden had 14 points, Xavier Arline put up 11 points, and Matt Moran finished with 6 points.
The Tuckers (7-2) take on Mercy (6-4) at Mattituck High School Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
