Jeri Lynn Schilpp, 58

Jeri Lynn Schilpp, resident of Aquebogue for the last 27 years, died February 19, 2015. She was 58 years old.

She was born to Dick and Gertrude Strine on June 26, 1956 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She married George A. Schilpp on November 12, 1983 in Bay Shore.

Jeri always enjoyed teaching and guiding young children. She began her teaching career at the Riverhead Co-op Nursery School based at the First Baptist Church. She then worked as the director of R.A.S.C.A.L.S., an after school program based at the Roanoke Avenue School. She then entered the Riverhead public schools as a kindergarten teacher, and eventually a second-grade teacher at Aquebogue Elementary School. Before teaching at Aquebogue she was heavily involved as a volunteer with the P.T.O. while her sons attended school there. Later she continued her work as a parent-teacher liaison with the P.T.O., also researching and organizing many cultural events at the school.

As a member of the Old Steeple Church, Jeri volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, and enjoyed participating in fundraisers whenever she could.

Jeri loved her family and her students. She was a very devoted wife and very devoted mother to her beloved sons.

She enjoyed spending time with her dogs, baking, camping, observing nature, swimming, kayaking, sailing and most of all helping people.

She is survived by her parents, Dick and Gertrude Strine, husband George A. Schilpp, sons George and Daniel, all of Aquebogue as well as her sisters, Beth Stover of Pennsylvania and Traci Wiklund of Manhasset.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home. A service will be held on Saturday, March 7 at Old Steeple Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Long Island branch of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
