Charles Lee Pollard, 78

Pastor Charles Lee Pollard of Calverton died at his home May 17, 2015. He was 78 years old.

Born April 25, 1937 in Tarrytown, New York, he was the son of Charles and Leah Pollard.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea in the 24th Infantry Division, 1957-1958. He married Mary Hood on Sept. 5, 1958 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Pollard was parts manager for Peter Glennon Buick Cadillac in Southampton for 18 years and was also a parts manager at Riverhead Building Supply.

He enjoyed preaching. He was a member of the Mattituck Veterans of Foreign Wars post and was a past volunteer firefighter and EMT in Lake Carmel, New York.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Pollard is survived by: his children, Charles Jr. of Calverton and Rance of Houston, Texas; his sister Leah Ann Bartell and her husband Leo of Albany, New York; a grandson, Austin James Knodler; his sister-in-law, Betty Hargis of Lawton, Oklahoma; his nieces, Sandy Cook, Kandy Peeler, Leeann Cullen and Stacey Ibison; and a special friend, Tara Harrigan.

The family will receive visitors at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral home in Riverhead on Wednesday, May 20, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service will be held during the evening visitation hours. Prayers will be offered at the funeral home on Thursday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Society.
