Sitting on blankets, enjoying picnics and the soft Greenport harbor twilight, a crowd turned out last night for a spirited performance of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night, Or What You Will.”
Presented by Northeast Stage and directed by Hannah Gray, the show is a delight, with outstanding performances by a cast including Grace Marie Johnson, Joseph Marshall, Maryellen Molfetta, Cate Clifford, Colette Steele, Tom Evans, Amie Sponza, Kevin Monsell, Tom LaMothe, Jonathan Fogarty, Ella Watts, Raven Janoski, Charles Lechner and James Pritchard.
The show takes place in the imaginary kingdom of Illyria and centers on Duke Orsino, who loves music, Olivia, who cannot return his love because she is mourning her dead brother, a pair of twins who think the other has perished after a violent storm, and a “lively group of characters who make the story and its many bequests of love the lively, comedic journey that has become one of William Shakespeare’s most enjoyable plays,” according to a description by Northeast Stage.
The cast is top-notch, with each performer bringing unique talents to the table, and all working together in a beautifully orchestrated production that had the audience laughing and clapping.
The final performance of the free Shakespeare in the Park production takes place tonight at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Park.
