Holiday fairs, gift sales and more at local historical societies

The holiday season is upon the East End and local historical societies are ready to celebrate this weekend.

  • The Southold Historical Society’s annual Candlelit Tour and Tree Lighting will be held on Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. The event will feature decorated historical buildings, farm demonstrations, crafts, music, Santa and more. Tree lighting will take place at 5 p.m.
  • Hallockville Museum Farm’s annual Country Parlor holiday show will have handmade gifts, holiday decor and more. It runs Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The Mattituck-Laurel Historical Society will hold its annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, with a Chinese auction from noon until 4 p.m., visits with Santa from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the tree lighting at 5 p.m.
  • The Cutchogue New Suffolk Historical Council will kick off its Carriage House Christmas Shop on Saturday. The event will continue every weekend until Christmas.

Here are some historical holiday events are coming up in the next month:

  • The Wading River Historical Society will be holding its annual Holiday Tea and Antiques Appraisal on Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Wading River Congregational Church auditorium.
  • The Southold Historical Society will hold its Holiday Fair on Saturday Dec. 5 at the Peconic Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Specially selected vendors will have a variety of holiday gifts and cards available for purchase.
  • The Suffolk County Historical Society will host its fifth annual Winter Wonderland Woodcarvers’ Holiday Show and Sale Saturday, December 5 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Cutchogue New Suffolk Historical Council will hold its holiday house tour Dec. 5. There will be self-guided tours of homes, bed and breakfasts and farms. Event ends with caroling, tree-lighting and refreshments at the Cutchogue Historical Society. Tickets are $75. Tours run from 12 to 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council.
  • Shelter Island Historical Society will host its Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. This holiday open house with Santa’s Workshop and Student Art Show will be open to the public in the seasonally decorated Havens House Museum and Havens Barn.
  • Oysterponds Historical Society’s annual holiday house tour takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 12. Tickets are $25 for historical society members and $30 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased the day of the event at the Orient Congregational Church beginning at 11:30 a.m.
