Passover begins tonight at sunset

Passover begins tonight at sunset.

Passover is an eight-day festival celebrated from the 15th through the 22nd day of the Hebrew month of Nissan. It commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. Click here for the full Passover story from Chabad.org.

The holiday is traditionally celebrated with a special meal called a Seder, during which celebrants relive the events leading up to the emancipation of the Israelites.

Temple Israel of Riverhead is hosting a community passover seder conducted by Rabbi Michael Rascoe (advanced registration by April 10 was required). Services will be held tonight at 6:45 p.m., tomorrow and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and on Friday, April 29 at 8:30 a.m.. Services and Yizkor will be on on Saturday, April 30 at 9:30 a.m. All morning services will be followed by a light breakfast.

Congregation Tiferete Israel in Greenport will light the Shabbat candles tonight at 7:19 p.m. with Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m. followed by Oneg. Tomorrow morning they will host Shabbat services from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by Kiddush Lunch.
