Carl H. Blasko Sr., 87

Carl H. Blasko Sr., a former longtime resident of Greenport died on July 17, 2016 at Eastern Long Island Hospital. He was 87 years old.

Born in Calverton on June 8, 1929 to Bruno and Fannie (Orlowski) Blasko, he attended the local school until the sixth grade when he left to work on the family farm due to the war.

On October 15, 1949, he married the former Elizabeth Capon and together they made their home in Greenport for 57 years. They moved to the Founders Village Community in Southold nine years ago.

Carl was had been a tractor trailer driver for Riverhead Building Supply for 36 years and was a union representative.

In the community, he was a 62-year member of the Greenport Fire Department (Standard Hose Company).

He is survived by his wife Betty; four children: Carl Jr. of Cutchogue, Bruce of Greenport, Karen of Southold and Gary of Queensbury, New York; two sisters, Christine Blasko and Leona Smith, both of Riverhead; and seven grandchildren: Tim of Cutchogue, Jayme of Greenport, Gabby of Queensbury, Will of Greenport, Carter of Queensbury, and John and Matthew of Greenport; and great-grandchildren Olivia and Charlotte, both of Cutchogue. He was predeceased by siblings Albert, Steve, Frank, John, William, Bruno, Theresa Mountford, Amelia Bauer and twins Annie and Alec.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 20 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Greenport Fire Department services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Thomas P. Murray. Interment will follow at Sterling Cemetery in Greenport.

Memorial donations may be made to the Southold Fire Department Rescue Squad, Greenport Fire Department Rescue Squad or Southold Police Department PBA.
