Chester S. Friszolowski, 95

Chester S. Friszolowski of South Jamesport died October 16, 2016 at Acadia Care Center in Riverhead. A World War II veteran and retired Riverhead Town Police officer, he was 95 years old.

Born Nov. 16, 1920 in Greenport, he was the son of Czeslaw and Martha (Haupt) Friszolowski.

A graduate of Riverhead High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from six months before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 until the end of World War II in 1946, serving in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean theaters.

Frisolowski married Marie Ward in May 1956 and the couple settled in South Jamesport, where he grew up. They raised a family of four sons.

He was a lifetime member of St. Isidore R.C. Church and a past member of the Jamesport Fire Department. He was a beachcomber at St. Pete Beach in Florida, past president of the Great Meadows Property Owners Association and a member of the Bella Vista Civic Association.

He was the oldest retired Riverhead police officer and served 23 years on the force without every taking a sick day, his family said. He was a proud member of the Riverhead Police Benevolent Association. In his retirement, he worked for Riverhead Central School District security.

A lifelong resident of South Jamesport, Friszolowski was an avid bayman.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his sons: John and his wife Sue of South Jamesport; Mark and his wife Patti of North Carolina; Ward and his wife Amber of Florida; and Chet of South Jamesport. He is also survived by grandsons, Jack, Ward and Mark and a granddaughter, Alexa.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Cremation will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Isidore R.C. Church, the Jamesport Fire Department and the Riverhead PBA.
