Virginia C. Byrnes Osler, 87

Virginia C. Byrnes Osler of Laurel, formerly of East Northport and Great Neck died on November 26. She was 87 years old.

2016_1129_byrnes_obitShe was born on May 26, 1929, the daughter of Agnes and Jack Crossley. She graduated from Great Neck High School and attended Mary Mount College. She married Edward J. Brynes, who she knew since kindergarten. She gave birth to four boys and settled in East Northport to raise them.

She worked for a group of gynecologists and was an active volunteer, serving as an EMT in the Commack Ambulance Corps. She retired to Laurel with her husband Ned. Together they traveled around the world and were active members of the North Fork Country Club and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Mattituck.

Known as “Ginny,” she enjoyed entertaining, be it a bridge lunch, a meeting of the Minapauge or a dinner with friends and family. Ginny was known for her humor and her gift of making you feel better for just having been with her.

At the age of 82 she fell in love once again and filled every moment with new adventures, dancing on the arm of “Mr. Osler.”  From riverboat tours in Europe, to a trip to the Grand Canyon with grandchildren, Ginny lived each day with Bill to the fullest. They were married on January 31 of this year. 

She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward (Ned) Byrnes and her son, Jim. She is survived by her husband, Bill Osler; children Jack (Laurie), Tom (Karen) and Richard Byrnes (Michael McDyer, Drew Allt); step-children Mark, Darryl (Mary), Bruce (Jennifer), and Scott (Julie); grandchildren Megan (Andrew), Tim, Brian, Lauren and Emilee Byrnes; step-grandchildren Sean, Bryan, Kyle, Boden, Brandon, Madison, Jordan, Ryan and Colleen Osler; great-grandchild Anna; sisters Joan Sheehan and Barbara Telling and sisten-in-law Ann Garman.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Good Counsel RC Church in Mattituck.
