For many North Fork residents, the new year officially begins with a plate full of pancakes at the Southold Fire Department’s popular New Year’s Day breakfast.
Hundreds turned out for the 25th annual event, which featured pancakes, sausage, home fries, eggs and toast all prepared by the hardworking members of the Southold Fire Department.
As the crew worked in the kitchen churning out tray after tray of food, others were stationed at the buffet table and volunteers kept the coffee pots full and the tables cleared.
Although no one could confirm the exact number of tickets sold, fire department member John Helf estimated that they’d prepared somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 pancakes between 8 and 11:30 p.m.
