Southold defeated McGann-Mercy 49-41 yesterday at Southold High School.
The non-league game was even throughout, with both teams forcing turnovers at mid-court. Southold took a small lead into the second half, as they turned on the jets and scored a solid run of baskets to bump the lead up to 10 points.
The Monarchs (1-8) forced many turnovers down low, but only capitalized on them sparsely, as they also committed many fouls which was their second-half downfall.
Pat McFarland had a game-high 29 points to lead Southold (2-6). Allan Zilnicki put up 23 points for McGann-Mercy (1-8).
McGann-Mercy’s next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 11 while Southold plays Ross School Friday, Jan. 6. Both games start at 6:15 p.m.
