Greenport defeated Southold 80-62 at Greenport High School last night.
It was a real barnburner out on the East End as Greenport came out of the gate roaring in the first half with quick baskets, great plays from down low with Ahkee Anderson all over the court, and some solid rebounding from Julian Swann.
Pat McFarland controlled the floor for Southold, doing all he could do to keep them in the game, and when time ran out it was 45-26, Greenport. The second half was a different story as Southold began to gain momentum and score baskets that brought them within 9 points. Greenport would not waiver and settled down to finish the game with the win, 80-62.
McFarland had a game-high 35 points for Southold. Anderson led Greenport with 27 points for the win, improving the Porters to 6-5 overall, 2-0 in League VIII.
