Greenport defeated Southold 87-59 at Southold High School. It was a real rim-ringer played in front of a packed Southold gym as Greenport made short work of a depleted Southold team.

With two players out sick and a short bench, an extremely quick Greenport team made life hard for the Settlers.

Ahkee Anderson led Greenport with 21 points, including five three-pointers, and had eight assists. Tashan Lawrence and Julian Swann each had 13.

Southold had trouble getting deep on Greenport’s defense, so they relied on the three-point shot of Pat McFarland, as well as his hard driving into the paint. McFarland had a game-high 33 points.

Southold outscored Greenport in the second half, when the Porters drew on their bench, but the Settlers could not overcome a 31-point deficit at the half, which ended with a 56-25 Greenport lead.

Greenport (8-0 in League VIII, 12-6 overall) hosts Pierson on Wednesday, Feb. 8 (6:15 p.m.) Southold (2-7 in League VIII, 4-13 overall) travels to Shelter Island on Wednesday (5:45 p.m. start). The Settlers’ next home game is Friday, Feb. 10 against Stony Brook.
