Steven A. Lappe died at Eastern Long Island Hospital on February 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was 64 years old.
He was born January 26, 1953 to Frederick and Elsie (Olson) Lappe. He lived in Huntington with his family before moving to the North Fork in 1964.
He attended Southold Schools and graduated from high school in 1970.
He worked his family’s farm and was active from childhood to when the farm on South Harbor Road was sold in 2001. He then worked at Briarcliff Sod in Peconic. He was instrumental in the field but his love was driving the “18 wheelers”. He even delivered sod into New York City for the displays at Rockefeller Center.
Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by three brothers Christopher (Theresa) of Southold, Paul (Roberta) of Indiana and Frederick (Jennifer) of Calverton and his sister Susan (Fred) Stradling of Amawalk, New York.
Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Greenport officiated by Rev. Thomas LaMothe. Interment followed at the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Southold.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
