Hear ye! Hear ye! All citizens of the North Fork are invited to attend the Riverhead Medieval Festival — an event that seeks to replicate life in the Dark Ages of Europe.

The Kingdom of Acre tries to reproduce nearly all aspects of life in the medieval age. The lords and ladies and citizens and subjects of Acre enjoy period music, song and dance, historic research and costume design, calligraphy, archery, medieval games, cooking, brewing and other varied medieval arts and crafts according to the organizer. The event is hosted and staffed by the volunteers of Medieval Scenarios and Recreations, Incorporated chartered by New York State as a nonprofit educational group.

While traditional RenFairs are geared mostly toward entertainment, The MSR, Inc. website says its “events seek to recreate the ambiance of the middle ages as accurately as possible (necessary anachronisms notwithstanding) and so [their] festivals may have a slightly different flavor from commercial renaissance faires.” Because it is chartered as an educational non-profit group, its goal is less commercial and more informative.

The Renaissance style fair takes place June 10 and 11 from 12 to 5 p.m. each day at the Dorothy P. Flint 4H Campgrounds on Sound Avenue in Riverhead. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 4 to 12. Children under 4 are free.

The banners are hung and the lords and their ladies, jousters, guildsman and medieval merchants all await your attendance. 2017_0523_Medieval_Festival_Renassaince_Fair
