Cops: Man drove high, crashed into utility pole, found with heroin

An East Marion man was cuffed on Saturday after police said he drove while on drugs and crashed into a utility pole.

According to Southold Town police, Brendan Vibert, 27, was arrested on Saturday at 8:38 p.m. on County Road 48 and Mill Road in Mattituck.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.

Police said officers responded to reports of an “erratic driver” on County Road 48, and, as police were about to pull over the vehicle, the driver left the roadway and struck a utility pole, causing brief power outages.

Further investigation found Vibert to be Impaired by drugs; he was also found to be in possession of heroin, suboxone, marijuana, as well as several Xanax pills, police said.

His passenger was transported to Easten Long Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
