Police were on the scene of a car accident in Orient Friday that sent at least one person to the hospital, according to Southold Town police.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley, the accident took place at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Route 25 when a car hit a utility pole heading east. At least one person was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital  with non-serious injuries, Flatley said.

One witness on the scene said the accident sparked a traffic snarl as vehicles unloaded from the Cross Sound Ferry and headed west on New York State Route 25.
