John L. Hussnatter, Jr., of Mattituck died at home on April 1, 2014. He was 82 years old.
“Jack” was born in Brookhaven, NY on July 27, 1931 to John and Maud (nee Kaan) Hussnatter and served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wasp.
Educated in the United States Navy and SUNY @ New Paltz, he enjoyed a career as a teacher and coach in the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District for thirty-three years.
He was a past member of the Mattituck Fire Department and was a member of the Island’s End Golf and Country Club in Greenport where he served as a board member and club champ.
Formerly of Patchogue, he has lived in Mattituck for the past fifty years.
Predeceased by his wife, Veronica (nee West) on August 1, 2011; he is survived by his children: Michael Hussnatter of Easton, Maryland, John Hussnatter of Mattituck and Luanne Hussnatter of Riverhead; a sister, Mae Reider of Reading, Pennsylvania and five grandchildren: Matthew, Tucker, Kennedy, Ashley and Michael.
Visiting and funeral services took place on Saturday, April 5th at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck with Reverend Dr. Peter J. Kelley officiating. Military honors were rendered by the United States Navy.
