New shop, Phoebe & Belle, open for business in Cutchogue

After months of anticipation, a new shop has opened on Main Road in Cutchogue.

A new shop, Phoebe & Belle, owned by Kathy Perretta, is welcoming customers at the site of the former Down Home Store, located at 37070 Main Road.

“We’re a home/garden gift store,” Perretta said Monday, adding that her vision was to create “a store for the community. Especially in this area of Cutchogue, where it’s hard to find a home/hostess gift.”

In addition, Perretta focuses on home accessories and furniture.

The shop is Perretta’s first foray into retail; she had a design studio years ago.

Her goal, she said, was to restore the historic building, which was “such a love of the community. We’ve had sucha a positive response, because of its historic significance,” she said.

The building, located at the corner of Skunk Lane and the Main Road in Cutchogue, once housed a 19th century post office.

Phoebe & Belle, according to the shop’s site, “is a lifestyle store inspired by the North Fork of Long Island. We emphasize accessible design with a penchant for clean lines and natural, organic beauty.”

Perretta, the site states, is a “longtime North Forker with a passion for design and food.”

While Perretta’s inner foodie was “well-satiated” by the North Fork’s farms and vineyards, the designer felt there was something “missing”, the website states. And so, she “decided to open Phoebe & Belle, a store to showcase beautiful and functional home decor and serve as a perfect go-to for gifts, kitchen, and garden furnishings.”

The shop will be run with Perretta’s partner and daughter Annie.
