A television show filmed in Southold last month will appear as an episode of a new cable network home makeover series, “Vacation Home for Free.”
A representative from Departure Films confirmed via a phone call Wednesday that the recent filming in Southold was for an episode that will appear during the second season of the television series.
The show filmed inside a home on a street located off Main Bayview Road from June 27 through June 29, with building supply trucks, lighting vans and cameramen setting up at the corner of Bay Haven Lane and Midway.
Production assistants on the set said they were not allowed to disclose any information about the show being filmed there until the episode airs, but one person delivering equipment said that the program would involve a home makeover. Workers were seen carrying doors and other home improvement items into the garage.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Southold Town board voted to approve the refund of $250 to Departure Films, a New York City-based company, which had supplied a cleanup deposit for the television series shoot.
The town clerk’s office said Departure Films shot in eight or nine different town locations, including Goose Creek Beach, over the three-day period.
Shots at a private home, town official said, did not need a clean-up deposit.
Departure Films’ Facebook page states that the company is now casting for the second season of “Vacation House for Free.”
According to the HGTV website, Departure Films — the company that has created DIY’s Million Dollar Contractor and Vanilla Ice Project — has been casting a new series for HGTV “seeking vacation home buyers who aren’t afraid of properties that need work. Properties on the show would be in need of updating and renovation and have values up to about $600,000. Ideal candidates are outgoing, creative, and would set aside around $30,000 to start their renovations. If candidates are selected, the show would supplement that budget to ensure a fabulous finish,” the site reads.”We are looking for game couples and families interested in lake homes, mountain homes, get-away homes in popular vacation destinations and even second homes in small charming cities (like Savannah, Ga., or Santa Fe, N.M.). We are especially interested warm-weather beach towns and the great vacation properties you can find there.”
All was quiet at the home, located in the sleepy Bay Haven community, this week.
