Cops: Man threatened vineyard patron, drove motor home drunk

A Southold man was cuffed Sunday night after he threatened a patron at a winery then drove a “large motor home” while drunk, police said.

According to Southold Town police, George F. Clancy, 59, was arrested at 5:52 p.m. on Deep Hole Drive in Mattituck.

Police said while investigating a harassment complaint at Pugliese Vineyard, where a man allegedly made threats toward another patron and then left in the motor home, Clancy was observed driving west on Route 25, leaving his lane of travel and making an insufficient turn signal.

Clancy was pulled over on Deep Hole Drive, and “the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected” on his breath, police said. He was found to be intoxicated, arrested, and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, police said.

Clancy was transported to Southold Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held to await arraignment, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
