An East Marion man was cuffed on Saturday after he stole money from a wallet in a Southold restaurant and then hid the wallet and a cell pone in the toilet tank in the bathroom, police said.
According to Southold Town police, Gorden J. Haas, 54, was arrested at 1 p.m. at the Southold restaurant and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, because the value of the items was valued at over $1000.
Police said all the items were recovered, but the iPhone was found to be unusable. Haas was taken to Southold Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held overnight to await arraignment, police said.
