The Greenport Board of Education will hold an emergency executive session meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The meeting will be held in the district auditorium.

The meeting follows the arrest Saturday of high school mathematics chair Gordon Haas. The district said on Monday that no decision had yet been made on whether or not any action would or could be taken.

Haas, of East Marion, was cuffed on Saturday after he stole money from a wallet in a Southold restaurant and then hid the wallet and a cell pone in the toilet tank in the bathroom, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Haas, 54, was arrested at 1 p.m. at the Southold restaurant and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, because the value of the items was valued at over $1000.

It was not immediately clear if the BOE was planning to meet Tuesday to discuss the incident.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
