Cops: Man slapped with DWI charge in Mattituck

A Brentwood man was busted for speeding and driving drunk in Mattituck on Friday night, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Herlin Calix-Munoz, 36, was arrested at 6;26 p.m. on Elijahs Lane  and Route 48 and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after police said he was seen speeding, failing to maintain his lane, and failing to signal a lane change while heading eastbound.

Calix-Munoz was stopped and after being interviewed and given standardized field sobriety tests,  it was determined that he was intoxicated, police said. He  was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters  to be processed. He was held overnight to await arraignment in Southold justice court.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
