Volunteers needed to make Porters final ‘home game’ a night to remember

After the Greenport High School varsity football team’s season was abruptly canceled this week, parents and school administrators are coming together to give senior Porters a grand sendoff.

The celebration will take place at 7 p.m. on the Greenport High School football field tonight.

And volunteers are needed to make the night unforgettable.

At a meeting held this week with parents and community members, it was decided that senior Porters would be honored with a special gathering. Suggestions included a powder puff game, a flag football game, or just a fun event to recognize their hard work.

Parents at the meeting all agreed to help support the event.

Those wishing to volunteer can call Joan Dinizio at 631-477-1950, ext. 1224.

“With the cancellation of our football season, we’re still trying to make the final ‘home game’ — that won’t exist — special for our senior cheerleaders and football players. The seniors would like to have a flag football game between the football team/cheerleaders/faculty/alumni. If you are interested in playing and making this night special for them, please let me know by posting below,” Dinizio wrote on Thursday.
