Harbor Pet in Greenport offers pet CPR Sunday

Four-legged friends can need medical help in an emergency, too.

That’s why Kimberly Loper, owner of Harbor Pet in Greenport, has teamed up with Robyn Elman, president of In Home Pet Services, Inc., to provide a potentially life-saving Pet First Aid & CPR class on Sunday at the shop.

Elman is a certified “Pet Tech” instructor. The class will be held on Sunday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Harbor Pet, located at 25 Front Street in Greenport — and a portion of proceeds will benefit the North Fork Animal Welfare League.

“Offering this class for our North Fork pet owners is something I have wanted to since I have re-opened Harbor Pet in April.  It’s a very important class and all pet owners should learn about how to save their pet’s life in an emergency,” Loper, who also owns Life is Grruff, said.  “I am delighted to have Robyn Elman of In Home Pet Services here to give the class as she has been a Pet Tech for over seven years.  And we are so happy to again be able to give back to the North Fork Animal Welfare League.”

The class is offered to pet owners, pet professionals, and anyone that wants to learn pet life saving procedures. Using a life-sized stuffed animal dog, participants will learn how to: restrain an injured or ill pet; CPR and rescue breathing; bleeding injuries; heat element injuries; fall and winter dangers to pets and how to prevent them; bandaging; insect bites and more.

To register, call Harbor Pet at (631) 477-1518 or send a check or money order for $85, payable to In Home Pet Services, Inc. to 25 Front, Greenport, New York, 11944. The class is limited to 15 people and each participant will receive a take-home reference manual and a certificate of course completion.
