Supporters excited about restoring the skating rink at the Greenport American Legion turned out in force this week at a fundraiser hosted by Skipper’s in Greenport.

The fundraiser was held on both Monday and Veterans Day, and according to staffer Robin Evans, over 400 dinners were dished up.

“The support for the American Legion is great,” Evans said. She added that the first time the event was held a few years back, it was a one-day affair and over 400 dinners were sold then, too. “It was nice to see everyone come out for the American Legion.”

Diners chose between Yankee pot roast with gravy, chicken parmesan with linguini, and stuffed flounder with shrimp sauce. Dinner also includes salad, vegetable, bread, dessert, and coffee.. A 50/50 raffle was also be held.

Proceeds will benefit the Burton Potter Post No. 185 American Legion in Greenport. Volunteers are working to get the building repaired so it can open once again for roller skating.
