Christmas comes alive at Zuhoski tree farm in Cutchogue

It’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas at Zuhoski Farms in Cutchogue.

The Christmas tree farm, which is open weekends only for “Cut Your Own Christmas Trees”, has been in business since 1996, when brothers Steven and David Zuhoski made the switch from potatoes and vegetables to trees.

“It just got bigger and bigger,” Steven Zuhoski told SoutholdLOCAL this week.

The business has become a beloved tradition for families who return year after year to either choose a precut tree or cut their own. “It’s good to see the same people. They come back every year, from when the kids are babies, to when they are two, four and six, and then, the kids are the ones driving the parents out. It’s a good time,” Zuhoski said.

This year, over 1,000 trees are available, with a few thousand ready to go in the coming years, Zuhoski said.

In addition to pre-cut Fraser and Douglas Fir trees, live trees, balled and burlapped are also available; wreaths, roping, centerpieces and grave blankets are also created on-site. Prices range from a 15-foot tree for $65 to a precut tree for $30.

The farm has a staff comprised 99 percent of family, Zuhoski said, with his wife, daughter, nieces, sister and others all working at the farm; employees who are hired to sell the trees are as close as family, he added.

And the guest of honor, Zuhoski said, is Santa; hayrides with jolly St. Nick, who calls out “Ho, ho, ho” to the crowds, delight kids of all ages. “Parents and adults enjoy it, too,” he said.

The farm is located at 11825 Oregon Road in Cutchogue. For additional information, call (631) 734-5036. The farm is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to dusk; visitors  can also head to a satellite location seven days a week from Thanksgiving through Christmas on the corner of Bridge Lane and Route 48 in Cutchogue for pre-cut, balled and burlapped live trees.
