Two Riverhead men were arrested on Route 25 in Southold Tuesday night, police said.
According to Southold Town police, an anonymous driver called police to say they’d spotted a vehicle driving erratically at 10:20 p.m. Jose Avelar, 48, was stopped and found to be intoxicated; he was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
Meanwhile, police said, his passenger, Elmer Quesada, 19 and also of Riverhead, was found to be in possession of marijuana. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and false personation, a misdemeanor, for giving the wrong name to law enforcement officials, police said. Both men were transported to Southold Town police headquarters and held to await arraignment.
