Photos: Hundreds turn out to welcome Santa by helicopter during ‘Christmas in Cutchogue’

Saturday dawned sunny with bright blue skies, perfect for welcoming Santa, who flew in to Cutchogue by helicopter.

The annual “Christmas in Cutchogue” event began at the Cutchogue Fire Department, where children enjoyed a magic show, complete with a live bunny rabbit, and homemade cookies and treats.

Next, eager children headed with their parents to the field outside, where they waited anxiously for the first sight of Santa on his chopper. After greeting the little ones, Santa hopped aboard a Cutchogue firetruck and made his jolly way to the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Free Library, where he greeted children, each of whom received a stuffed toy.

The event, organized by the North Fork Chamber of Commerce and the Cutchogue Fire Department, is an annual tradition.

And, just as they’ve done in years’ past, children waited for their chance to whisper their Christmas wish list into Santa’s ear, asking for Elsa dolls, toy trucks, laptops, X-box games and scooters. One little boy asked Santa for a slingshot, but Santa urged him not to put that on his list.

Another little boy rushed up to Santa after he’d landed in his helicopter and asked worriedly, “Am I on the Naughty List this year?”

Santa laughed and assured the tot that, never fear, he was safe on the “Good List”.
