A concerned motorist did his best to warn others about an erratic drunk driver in Mattituck Friday, police said.
According to Southold Town police, an officer responded to a call about a vehicle being driven “in an erratic manner”.
The caller said that the vehicle had crossed over into oncoming traffic lanes several times; the caller also said that he’d turned on his four-way flashers to warn other drivers, police said.
The car in question was stopped on Rt. 48 in Mattituck and Charles A. Edwards, 59, of Greenport was arrested at 7:21 p.m. on Friday and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after he failed several roadside sobriety tests, police said. He was taken to police headquarters where he was processed and held overnight to await arraignment, police said.
