Cops: Bomb scare false alarm in Mattituck

A bomb scare in Mattituck Saturday ended up being a false alarm, police said.

According to Southold Police Chief Martin Flatley, police responded to a residence on Sigsbee Road in Mattituck  at 4:45 p.m. for a domestic call and officers “noticed a device which appeared suspicious in nature. Officers cleared the house,” he said.

Officers believed the device may have been an explosive, police said.

Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Services Unit responded to the residence to examine the device, Flatley said.

Southold Lieutenant James Ginas said as of 9:30 p.m., the device was found to be harmless. An arrest was made in the domestic incident, he added; details of the arrest have not yet been released.
