Despite a cancellation due to yesterday’s snow, Greenport High School’s performance of “Once Upon a Mattress” has two remaining shows, tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. — and students are excited for the show to go on.

“Come on out and support a great bunch of kids who have worked extremely hard to bring you a spectacular performance,” said producer Diane Peterson.

Tickets can be purchased at the Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport and at the door. If you had tickets for last night’s performance, they will be honored for either of the two remaining performances. Student and senior tickets cost $7; adult tickets cost $10.

The show is directed by Robert Horn, with musical direction by Karen Haley, and produced by Peterson. Student choreographers Megan Murray, Nellie Spackman and Lena Wolf also lend their talents to the production.

“The cast started preparing for this show in December learning the music and dance choreography. They have worked around their share of winter weather to be prepared to put on an awesome show. For many of the performers, this show is their first,” Peterson said.
She added, “Our student choreographers have done an excellent job of preparing cast members, who, before they started had never seriously danced before. A truly wonderful piece to all of this is the sheer number of NJROTC cadets in this year’s show. They have brought a wonderful element to the cast.
