Firefighters rushed to the scene of a house fire today in Southold that left no injuries and the residence intact.

Responders from the Southold Fire Department knocked down the “room and contents ” fire, which officials at the scene said began in an upstairs closet. The fire was called in at 4;40 p.m. by a resident of the house,  Humberto Lyn-Gatica, 46, who said he did not know how the fire started, Southold Town police said.

According to police, because of the swift response by the Southold Fire Department, the fire was extinguished quickly and did not spread to the rest of the house; no injuries were reported, officials said. The home is located at 56995 Main Road just west of the North Fork Table in Southold.
