Cops: Greenport man found stranger in his living room

A Greenport man was busted after police said he entered someone’s home without permission.
According to Southold Town police, Anthony Chance, 34, of Greenport, was arrested on Tuesday at 10:38 a.m. on Brown Street after police said a man was home in his bathroom, getting ready for work, when he heard someone walking around in his living room. He opened the door and saw Chance standing there, police said.
The man questioned Chance, who said he was looking for someone; when asked to leave, Chance complied, police said, adding that he fled the scene on a green mountain bike and was apprehended a few blocks away.
Chance was arrested and charged with criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, police said; he was taken to police headquarters and released on $200 cash bail, police added.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
