Update: 1:54 p.m.: Due to the inclement weather expected for tomorrow, The Riverhead Recreation Department’s Annual Egg Hunt will be postponed to Friday, April 17, at 6 p.m. at Stotzky Park, Fields #1 and #2. Schedule is as follows:
6 p.m.: Children 0-three (with parent)
6:15 p.m.: Ages four and five (with parent)
6:30 p.m.: Ages six and seven (no parents permitted)
6:45 p.m.: Ages eight and nine (no parents permitted)
7:00 p.m. Ages 10-14 (no parents permitted)
– The Orient Beach State Parks Spring Egg Hunt has also been postponed.The new date will be Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
Original story: With Easter only a week away, kids are eager for for the Easter Bunny to hop into town with his annual array of egg hunts, sure to delight young and old. Here’s a round-up of what’s happening this weekend.
Southold Town
On the North Fork, the 26th annual Spring Egg Hunt takes place at Orient State Park on Route 25 in Orient on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The egg hunt is free and includes prizes and refreshments. Parking fees unless visitors have the Empire Pass. There’s a rain date on March 29. For additional information call 631-323-2440.
Next, the Mattituck Park District hosts its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Veterans Memorial Park on Peconic Bay Boulevard Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Bring a basket or bag; the event is organized for kids 14 and under. Kids can enjoy prizes galore, including bicycles, as well as ice cream, pizza and more.
The event is sponsored by the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce, Country Time Cycles and Jim and Christine Murphy, as well at Mattituck 7-Eleven, Wendy’s Deli, Mattituck Cinemas, Love Lane Toys, Goldberg’s Famous Bagels, Magic Fountain, East End Sporting Goods, Uncle Joe’s Pizza, Yogurt Expressions, Mattituck Sweet Shoppe, Michelangelos of Mattituck and Ammirati’s of Love Lane.
A rain date is scheduled for April 4 at 1:30 p.m.
Riverhead
An annual town recreation department-sponsored Egg Hunt takes place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for kids ages three to 14. Families are asked to meet at the picnic tables near the parking lot. In the age categories that parents are permitted to help, no older/younger siblings will be allowed. Please bring someone along to watch siblings. In case of inclement weather call 631-727-5744 ext. 30 on the day of the event.
Schedule of events:
10 a.m.: Children up to age three, with parent.
10:30 a.m.: Ages four and five, with parent.
11 a.m.: Ages six and seven, no parents permitted.
11:20 a.m.: Ages eight and nine, no parents permitted.
12:15 p.m.: Ages 10 to 14, hunt for eggs throughout the park. Location: Field #2.
