Mattituck/Greenport/Southold will be well represented this year in the post season with both boys and girls lacrosse teams set to try to make history. The Tuckers received their seeding in the playoff brackets revealed by Section XI this morning.

Neither team has won a playoff game before and with both teams hosting their first round game as the higher seed, the history books are open and ready for the first page to be written.

The girls will have their first crack tomorrow in the Division II bracket as they face No. 5 Babylon in Mattituck at 4 p.m. The Tuckers (9-5 Division II, 10-5 overall) feature one of the best players in the nation in Katie Hoeg. The junior tallied 52 goals and 48 assists this season which instantly puts her among the elite.

Babylon (7-7 Division II, 8-7 overall) lost its only meeting against the Tuckers on April 21 by the smallest of margins, 12-11. That game was played in Mattituck.

A healthy dose of Hoegs should be enough to bring the Tuckers into the next round.

The boys will have a layoff before they play their first game. The Tuckers who finished second in League IV with a 10-2 record will face No. 3 Port Jefferson (7-5 League IV) on Thursday May 21 at 4 p.m. There’s a $6 admission for that game to be played at Mattituck High School.

The winner will face either No. 1 Babylon or No. 4 Center Moriches at Stony Brook University to determine the “C” qualifier in the Division II playoff bracket.

The Tuckers played Port Jefferson twice during the season and beat them both times, the latter a blowout. Timmy Schmidt scored 39 goals this season to lead the Tuckers.
