Behind Pat McFarland’s one-hit complete game gem of a performance, Southold (20-2) has been crowned Suffolk County Class C champions with a 6-0 victory over Pierson/Bridgehampton (14-8) Thursday afternoon. The First Settlers went on the road and simply took care of business.

On the heels of a game one extra-inning walk off hit just a day ago, the Whalers didn’t have the will or emotions to bring the series to a final game three.

“Anybody that loses that game yesterday has to really battle to come back,” Settlers head coach Mike Carver said. “I told the boys after the game that the huge win was yesterday, coming back like that in the sixth.”

Without a Class C Nassau County team, the First Settlers are the Long Island representative in Southeast Regional to be played on June 6. Where exactly it will be played and when will be decided at a later date.

“I’m going to start doing my homework tonight,” Carver said. “I think we’ll be playing a team in Section 9 so I’ll have to look into that.”

McFarland also hit a 2-RBI double in the top of the second inning to put Southold ahead early 4-0.

Shayne Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Sean Moran hit 3-for-4 as well with a run scored.

Now the waiting game begins. There’s a lot of time before the First Settlers play again. They’ll most likely schedule some scrimmages with other playoff teams in the area. Smithtown Christian, a Class D team is among those that will be willing to play, Carver said.

One win will send Southold into the state final four and three wins will give them the state championship.
