A motorcyclist injured in a Cutchogue crash ran off into the woods after the accident, police said.
According to Southold Town police, Robert DeJesus, of Cutchogue, was involved in the accident, which took place last night at at 10:29 p.m. at New York State Route 25 and Manor Hill Lane in Cutchogue.
A police officer saw a black motorcycle, ridden by a solo occupant, being driven at a “high rate of speed” and heading east on Route 25 in Mattituck, authorities said. As the officer arrived at the top of the hill he observed the motorcycle crashed in the roadway, its rider nowhere in sight, police said.
A witness stated that the rider had run off into the woods, police said. Southold Police units, including the K-9 unit, as well as an Suffolk County Police Department helicopter, conducted a search of the surrounding fields and woods for the possibly injured rider.
DeJesus, the owner of the motorcycle, was located in the woods a short distance from the accident site, claiming to be a “passenger” on the motorcycle at the time of the crash, while someone he called “Jason” was the driver, police said.
DeJesus was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries; “Jason” was never located, police said.
No charges were filed in the accident, police said.
