Cops: Southold woman airlifted to Stony Brook after crashing car into tree on Route 48

A Southold woman was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital after she lost control of her car and struck a tree on Route 48 today, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the woman, 37, was heading west at 4:50 p.m. when the accident occurred; the vehicle caught on fire but was extinguished by a police officer, authorities said.

She was transferred to Stony Brook with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No charges were filed, police said.
