Huge crowd expected at Saturday’s 59th Annual Cutchogue Fire Department Chicken Barbecue

Preparations have been ongoing all week, with participants ready to cook up a storm for one of the most beloved highlights of the summer season — the 59th Annual Cutchogue Fire Department Chicken Barbecue, which takes place Saturday.

United Fire Company No. 1 and the Cutchogue Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary work together on the event; more than 3,200 are expected to attend.

Members of the United Fire Company #1 have been working all week, with preparations beginning months in advance.

The logistics of orchestrating the event are daunting: Over 3500 chicken halves will be cooked, on 5000 lbs. of charcoal, along with 8000 ears of corn and close to 1800 lbs. of potato salad served.

On Friday, volunteers will gather to make salad, slicing cucumbers and other veggies, while others will whip up six huge batches of barbecue sauce.

The event begins on Saturday at 4 p.m and runs through 10 p.m. at the Cutchogue Firehouse, located at 260 New Suffolk Road in Cutchogue.  For additional information, click here.

Limited tickets are still available to the barbecue and are available by contacting the firehouse at (631) 734-6907.
