Bringing chairs and blankets, hundreds turned out at Peconic Landing’s “End of Summer” celebration at Brecknock Hall last night.
Generations of families sat happily listening to a live performance by the 40-member Atlantic Wind Symphony, comprised of musicians from across Long Island.
They hummed and sang along, clapped and applauded popular songs by George Gershwin, John Philip Sousa as well as well-known Broadway hits. In a show of fierce patriotism, the crowd joined in to salute veterans and current service members.
The performance was sponsored by the Brecknock Hall Foundation, which has a mission of maintaining the beautification and preservation of the historic mansion.
Fireworks, sponsored by Peconic Landing, had everyone, from grandparents to toddlers, wide-eyed in wonder.
“Isn’t this wonderful?” one woman was overhead saying.
