Southold residents could soon be able to utilize the town’s electric charging stations for their personal vehicles.
At this week’s town board work session, which takes place Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Town Hall, Supervisor Scott Russell plans to give an overview of the charging stations installed behind Town Hall and by the recreation center in Peconic.
Russell plans to have Karen McLaughlin, director of Southold Town’s senior services, as well as Comptroller John Cushman, onhand for the discussion, which will include the “success of the conversion of our fleet to energy efficient vehicles.”
Looking ahead, the supervisor would like to open the program up to the public.
“Now that the program is up and running, it’s time to take it to the next level,” he said.
Russell is proposing to give the public access to the two station, for a nominal fee, with a simple way to pay for the service at the stations to be discussed.
“I think we should also find more locations around the town to expand this service,” he said.
