Ceremony marks burial of town’s 375th anniversary time capsule

A piece of Southold history was preserved forever today.

A ceremony was held at Silversmith’s Corner, on Route 25, today, to mark the burial of a time capsule by the 375th anniversary committee.

Herb Adler, chair of the committee, said the time capsule included a sample of water from near Founders Landing, as well as a book about Southold, a 375th anniversary mug, flash drives with school projects completed by local students in honor of the anniversary, an old cell phone, and other pieces of life in Southold in 2015.

The time capsule will be unburied in 25 years, on the town’s 400th anniversary.

During the ceremony, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell read a proclamation and Southold Town Councilman Bob Ghosio, liaison to the 375th anniversary committee, said the town has held true to its core values for decades, keeping development at a minimum, with a focus on preservation of the lifestyle that residents have embraced for generations.
