As fall creeps toward winter, the games start to mean more and then the postseason begins. It all comes down to this.
Three local soccer teams have received their seeding.
Both Mattituck boys and girls soccer teams qualified for the playoffs this year and will both play their first round game on Wednesday.
The boys (9-3 League VII, 12-4 overall) secured the No. 2 seed so they’ll host the first round playoff game against a No. 3 Wyandanch (7-4-1 League VII, 7-7-1 overall) team that surprised them this year with a 3-1 victory in Wyandanch on October 5. The playoff game will start at 2 p.m.
The girls (7-7 League VII) will be the No. 4 seed in the B bracket against No. 1 Center Moriches (12-0 League VII). That game will be played on Wednesday in Center Moriches at 5 p.m.
Southold boys, after notching their first undefeated season since 1979, received the No. 1 seed and will await either No. 2 Pierson/Bridgehampton or No. 3 Stony Brook as they duke it out to determine who will advance.
Southold (10-0 League VIII, 13-2-1 overall) will play the winner of the first round matchup on Saturday October 31 at noon. The game will be played at Diamond in the Pines and there’ll be a $6 admission.
