Residents will get a chance to hear the latest updates on both the future of Eastern Long Island Hospital and escalating deer concerns at this week’s meeting of the Mattituck-Laurel Civic Association.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Wickham Avenue.

Presentations will include a talk by Paul J. Connor, President and CEO of Eastern Long Island Hospital, who will speak on “Transforming Healthcare: What will the affiliation between ELIH and Stony Brook mean to you?”

In addition, the North Fork Deer Management Alliance will give presentations by members John Severini, Bill Sertyl and Hazel Kahan, as well as representatives of Southold Town, on issues including the impacts of deer overpopulation on health, tick-borne diseases, road safety, traffic accidents, and the environment, including destruction of the forest understory, crops and private property.

Residents can learn about possible solutions and how the NFDA is working with Southold Town to implement ways to mitigate impacts of deer in the community.
