Fishing report: Tautog is king

Most, if not all, North Fork boats have switched over to blackfish at this point. When conditions are right, captains will toggle between sea bass and tog.

Ken on the Brooklyn Girl, out of Orient, reports a pretty steady blackfish bite, despite the full moon tides. Saturday and Sunday produced pool fish in the nine pound class.

Rob Thompson says he personally has not been able to get out to ply the waters around Orient. However, he talked to a guy at the gas station three days ago (love this report) who had false albacore at the point. Area beaches are still holding fish, Captain Rob saw them (albacore) at Truman’s beach on Tuesday.

Dennis Tinnin reports that the Peconic Star Fleet in Greenport has switched over to blackfish. They have been out twice and fishing has been consistent. The Peconic Star fleet expects to sail through mid November.

This will be my last regular report for this season. I hope to continue to do stories as I get out and fish through this winter/early spring. I want to thank everyone who contributed through the season.
