New Facebook plea created to help Spudster find a home

Gabrielle Stroup, who has worked tirelessly at the North Fork Animal Welfare League to help find families for the animals there, worked magic this year when her internet plea to find one dog, Chester, a home went viral and made headlines worldwide.

Chester’s story opened the door for other Facebook appeals, and led to a whirlwind of adoptions.

And now, Stroup has reached out to try to find another dog, Spudster, his forever home.

On the Facebook page, “Spudster Needs A Family,” a letter, written from Spudster melts hearts.

“Hi, I am Spudster! I am four years old and I love every human I meet,” the letter reads.

“I was living in a car with my owner and another dog when a Good Samaritan who was trying to make my life better took me. I know it was a really nice thought but I ended up in a tiny pen with many very loud dogs around me. I was so scared!”

Next, the letter states, a volunteer saw how scared Spudster was and asked the NFAWL to take him in.

“Thank goodness they did!” the post says. “I have been at the North Fork Animal Welfare League since May, 2014. I like it here well enough. I I have my own bed and my shelter mom is super nice to me and gives me extra kisses!”

But Spudster has had some medical issues, and has had surgery to repair a breathing problem.

“I am a staff and volunteer favorite. Everyone says how cute and little I am, not to brag!” the post reads.

Spudster weighs 44 lbs. “I love to lay on the couch and snuggle. In fact, I will snuggle anywhere. I don’t need much exercise. I’m more of a Couch Potato. I am just looking for a family. I walk great on a leash and would be willing to share my home with the right dog. Once you meet me, I promise you will love me — that’s what my human friends say. Please help me find a family. I don’t want to live in a shelter anymore. I want a couch and a family to call my own.”

While he does still have medical issues, none need medication. Spudster is in New York and transportation may be available.

Anyone interested in meeting Spudster should call the NFAWL at 631-765-1811, ext. 1.

“He is the sweetest guy,” Stroup said. “He smiles when he is happy to see someone. He has the cutest little walk. He’s one of the sweetest, funniest little guys I have ever met! I cannot say enough good things about this sweet boy. He has had medical issues and has been through a lot. He just deserves the best home.”
