Centereach man faces contempt charge after disturbance in Greenport bar

A Centereach man was arrested by Southold Town Police on criminal contempt charges following a disturbance at a Greenport bar.

Police were called to a Front Street bar at about 9 p.m. Monday on the report of an incident involving a man causing a problem with another patron, according to a police press release.

Adam Groom, 31, was “highly intoxicated” and was in possession of a bag containing five cans of beer and three bottles of vodka, police said. A warrant check revealed an outstanding order of protection that requires him to refrain from consuming or possessing alcohol, according to police.

Groom was arrested on a charge of criminal contempt in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, and held for morning arraignment, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
